The group, which last week saw its share price tumble 71% following a profit warning, has been awarded two contracts for the first phase of the high speed rail line through its joint venture with Eiffage Genie Civil and Kier Group.
The work on the planned 190 kilometer (118 miles) high-speed line is valued at nearly 1.4 billion pounds ($1.8 billion) and will be shared with French construction company Eiffage SA and United Kingdom competitor Kier Group Plc, Carillion said in a statement Monday.
It'll include surface works between the Chilterns and Long Itchington in Warwickshire on the £24.3 billion first phase of the £55 billion project, which covers 140 miles between London and Birmingham.
Carillion, which says it is the second largest rail infrastructure services provider in Britain, said stage one of the HS2 contract would run for 16 months and involve a design and a target cost for construction work.
"HS2 was always created to be much more than just a high speed railway and today we can see the opportunities it brings right around the country - spreading prosperity, acting as a catalyst for investment and rebalancing our economy ten years before the railway even opens".
Balfour Beatty said its joint venture with construction company VINCI has won two contracts worth a combined GBP2.50 billion, under which it will deliver Lot N1 and Lot N2. A further 3,000 people will operate HS2 network, and it is estimated that growth around new HS2 stations will create another 100,000 jobs.
Millions vote in Venezuela poll
The chief prosecutor's office confirmed Escot - who was a nurse - had been killed and four others wounded in the incident. Mr Fox went to Venezuela on Saturday in a group of Latin American former presidents to support the Opposition referendum.
The Department for Transport said preparatory work has begun and major construction work is due to start in 2018-19.
Alongside the contracts for Phase One construction, invitations for tender for the design of the four new stations have now also been released.
"We are looking for partners to help us deliver stations which not only provide unparalleled levels of accessibility, ease and convenience for our passengers, but who will work with local communities to ensure we also help unlock wider regeneration, new jobs, homes and opportunities".
A series of other HS2 announcements are taking place today.
The route of the Manchester and Leeds section of HS2 will also be announced later.
This means - subject to Parliamentary approval - this part of the route can open in 2027, 6 years earlier than planned, to bring the benefits of HS2 to the north and Scotland sooner.
The announcement comes as leaders in Yorkshire have warned it is vital the project "is completed in full", as question marks remain that the proposed eastern leg of the project, from Birmingham to Leeds, Sheffield and York, could fail to materialise if future governments decide to press ahead with the western side only.
