Fifty percent of Americans say the 45th USA president is doing a worse job than most past presidents, while just under 25 percent say he is doing better than his predecessors. In February 1975, Ford had a 39% approval ratings.
A new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that only 36 percent of Americans approve of Trump's job performance. Trump was only the second president with a disapproval rating higher than 50 percent in his first six months in office; the other was Bill Clinton in 1993. He repeated an earlier assertion that Trump is not the subject of any current investigation into alleged Russian efforts to tilt last year's election in the Republican's favour. Of those who believe Russia's attempt to intervene, most said Trump benefitted from that attempt. Of those, 48 percent said they do not trust Trump "at all" in negotiations with Putin.

And slightly less than half of those polled say the country has grown weaker under Trump. However, 48 percent "disapprove strongly" of his performance overall, a level never reached by his two Democratic predecessors.
The poll was conducted by landline and cell phone from July 10 to 13 in both English and Spanish among a random sample of 1,001 adults with a margin of error of 3.5 points.
