The president's eldest son said he would "love it" if that were the case, and he invited his brother-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Trump's campaign chairman at the time, Paul Manafort, to join the meeting, according to e-mails Trump Jr. released this week.
'That's politics!' he tweets.
"I wonder why the Secret Service, if this was nefarious, why the Secret Service allowed these people in", attorney Jay Sekulow said of the meeting Donald Trump Jr. arranged with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign.
Trump has been at his New Jersey golf resort since Friday evening and was watching the US Women's Open golf tournament on Sunday.
President Trump's campaign committee made a payment to the law firm of an attorney representing Donald Trump Jr. last month, almost two weeks before it was announced that the same attorney would be representing the president's son in Russia-related probes, according to a new campaign finance report filed Saturday.
South Korea Proposes Fresh Talks With North Korea
South Korea on Monday offered to hold rare military talks with North Korea on Friday at the border truce village of Panmunjom . The two Koreas restarted Cold War-era psychological warfare after the North's fourth nuclear test in January 2016.
The payment came nearly two weeks before Trump Jr. revealed that he met with a Russian lawyer in order to discuss damaging information on Hillary Clinton. Bodies including both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees and the Department of Justice in the form of a Special Prosecutor are looking into the matter.
"There's nothing illegal about that meeting", he later added.
"I don't represent Donald Trump Jr. and I don't know for sure everyone who was at that meeting", Sekulow said on "Meet The Press". Sixty percent said Russian Federation tried to influence the campaign, and among those who say so, 67 percent said Trump aides helped. "Illegally leaked information that was a conversation of the president of the United States with the, then-F.B.I. director". Plus, Akhmetshin himself previously said there wasn't even a security check. He said the president found out about his son's meeting "right before" the initial story about it came out.
Legal analysts have said Trump Jr. may have breached campaign finance laws that forbid foreign contributions - and a special counsel is conducting a criminal investigation into possible collusion between Trump associates and Russian Federation during the campaign.
Conway also maintained that Clinton is "one of the only people" who firmly believes in collusion between Trump's campaign and the Russian government. Legal experts say this generally includes political opposition research.
