Raging wildfires in British Columbia have displaced more than 17,000 people, while the provincial government says another 27,000 people have been told they may have to leave their homes at a moment's notice.
The gusty northerly winds that developed in its wake were detrimental to the wildfires of William's Lake, and, as a result, led to an evacuation order for the city of 10,000.
"They're obviously going to be ecstatic about forming a government after 16 years in Opposition, but they're going to have to contain that enthusiasm and show up. ready to get down to work, given the situation that's happening in much of the province".
She added that the fire was advancing rapidly because of the temperature, dry wood and grass and the topography of the region. Of those, more than 5,400 payments have already been issued, Mr. Turner said.
Initially, they planned that Williams Lake residents would go north to Prince George, but Richmond said flames crossed that highway, and the majority of evacuees were diverted south towards Kamloops.
Along with the eight homes, Windsor says some outbuildings were lost but no one was hurt, although more than 300 homes were ordered evacuated at the height of the 55-hectare blaze.
"I'm not too anxious", Mr. Baker said.
People willing to offer accommodations for the evacuees have two options, says Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz.

An evacuation order has been issued for Williams Lake and surrounding areas in the Cariboo Regional District.

Asked about potential pitfalls that could mar the transition, departing Forests Minister John Rustad expressed concern about the flow of information, from daily updates to details about evacuation centres.
They helped with the Kelowna and Barriere wildfires in 2003, the floods in High River, Alta.in 2013 and the aftermath of the quake in Nepal in 2015.
