Official sources said here today that the number of affected population has come down to seven lakh in 17 districts.Five more deaths were reported from across the state in last 24 hours, pushing the toll to 65.
According to a report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person died in Morigaon district, raising the death toll to 60 in this year's flood related incidents. Till yesterday, 10 lakh people were affected in the latest wave of floods across 21 districts in the state.
"All district administrations have been provided enough funds ahead of the floods and instructions issued to distribute relief generously in all affected areas", finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. One person is missing so far in flood in the district. He directed officials to take steps to fix and rebuild the houses damaged by floods and fix the embankment breached by floods.
Meanwhile, authorities on Monday afternoon sounded an alert in North Lakhimpur town and adjoining villages in the wake of the North-Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) informing that it would release a huge quantity of water from its Ranganadi hydro-electric project in Arunachal Pradesh.

Water resources minister Keshab Mahanta was heckled on Friday by flood-hit residents at Majuli, the Brahmaputra river island and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal's constituency, for alleged delay in handing relief material such as food and water.
Sonowal also instructed the officials to take steps to prevent outbreak of diseases in the aftermath of the floods.
Over 66,516 hectares of agricultural land continue to be affected by floods, the ASDMA report said. ORS, Halogen tablets are being distributed in flood affected areas.
The chief minister directed the DCs to take measures for preventing any criminal activity from taking place at the flood affected areas as well as the relief camps under direct supervision of Superintendents of Police (SP) of the districts. Approximately 1 million animals, including poultry have been affected and 1,652 houses have been damaged during this flood.
